Blood, Sweat, and Beers: Behind the Scenes of a Beer Brand
Join us at Gigasavvy Wednesday August 2nd, from 7pm – 9pm for a panel on Beermaking in Orange County. We will have an amazing group of panelists: Bryan Giesen, Brewer for Docent Brewing; Bobby Fitzgerald, Certified Cicerone and Co-Founder of Gunwhale Ales; and Brett Lawrence Founder of Towne Park Brew Co. Topics will range from startup hurdles, marketing tips, community building, staffing, brewing, and everything in between. Whether you’re an entrepreneur, someone considering starting a business, or just a beer lover – there will be knowledge to be gained. We’ll have free food and beverages from our sponsors, so RSVP and bring a friend!
About Gunwhale Ales and Bobby Fitzgerald:
Gunwhale Ales strike a balance between the raw, wild spirit of farmhouse brewing, and the pioneering hop forward styles of California. We have an obsession with yeast driven Saisons, hoppy IPAs, and other rustic, wild and sour beers. This gives our beers uncommon qualities that are both surprisingly delicate and nuanced, yet refined and robust in their simplicity. From bright, billowy summer ales to rustic, fortifying stormers that stand up to the rougher seas, Gunwhale makes beers that reflect the culinary and cultural heritage of the West Coast. Bobby manages sales and handles all the branding, design, and packaging for Gunwhale. Looking back, he sees time living in Europe in the 90’s as a major influence on his desire for better beer due to the exposure of traditional European styles before he even turned of age (and it kept him from getting much else done over there). But growing up in San Diego and spending much of his working life near many craft brewery pioneers didn’t hurt either. He has a deep love for coffee, Vespa culture, and the “3-beer lunch” which he justifies as “crucial research & development”.
About Docent Brewing and Bryan Giesen:
“To us, a docent is a leader, a guide, a teacher, and a pupil. We’ve always taken great joy in influencing people on craft beer culture. We love supporting local small businesses, a cornerstone of the craft beer movement. Our brewery is an outlet that allows us to educate and share interesting flavors of beer. I started home brewing probably 10 years ago, and it was just one of those things where you enjoy something and you want to learn how to do it. And it clicked immediately. I had early success in competitions and that got the fire burning.” – Bryan Geisen . Docent is San Juan Capistrano’s first first full-fledged brewery.
About Towne Park Brew Co. and Brett Lawrence:
Towne Park Brewery is located along the train tracks in Anaheim, CA-a city quickly becoming a craft brew capitol of America – and is set to open September 2017. When the industrial doors are rolled up, a space devoted to hops and good times fill the train station-inspired tasting room. Aside from a place to have a great beer, the brewery is also a hub for our community to share ideas, make new friends and expand our influence. Think Art shows, Towne talks, family picnics, birthdays, business meetings or just a place to try a new brew, it’s all welcome within our walls. Founded by Rancho Las Lomas Owner Brett Lawrence, brewed the first beer himself back in 2013. Since then he has gathered a talented team around him to advance the beer brand and build the new brewery.
