Josh Ariza is one of our fearless co-founders, a highly sought after freelance designer, and founder and creative director of Chomp (apparel brand). We were so excited to coax him into the spotlight to speak at our November 2016 Connecting Things So. Cal event. Josh’s talk is called “Freelance or Die”, and humorously delves into what it takes to be a successful freelance designer. He should know, too. He’s designed for clients like Nike, Stance (he designed the Star Wars set), ESPN, Vox, SB Nation, Taco Bell and more. His style mixes detailed, intricate illustrations with a snarky humor and vivid color.
In his talk, Josh covers what qualities a freelancer must have, the “no nos” of freelancing, how he bids on jobs, why he believes in sending cold emails, and how he has used personal work to get real clients. There’s tons of laughs and knowledge in this vid.
